Toad Alley has pups! These are "Frenchtons"! To get a better airway and open nostrils, we used a really nice calm and healthy small Boston Terrier as the dad. Mom is our small cream AKC Frenchie female, who is 18 pounds, healthy and playful. We don't own Dad, but you can meet Mom.
Puppy Stella is a pied girl with only one ear...Mom was inexperienced, and nibbled on her ear as well as the umbilical cord. But the ear is normal inside and she hears normally. Our vet has checked her out and given her a health certificate stating this. Stella is loving, bouncy, curious and outgoing. She loves playing with other pups and dogs, exploring, car rides, sleeps in her crate quietly, and will be tiny: about 13 pounds when mature.
Stella's brindle sister "Pobble" will be even smaller; she is 2 and 1/4 lb at 8 weeks and may end up being around 12 pounds.
Pups: $ OBO
Dad and Mom are both outgoing, adaptable, love kids, and active with good airways. Health checked. You are welcome to meet Mom!
Our dogs are house pets, and we do not import pups from other breeders or countries. We try hard to maintain our 15-year reputation for healthy, family-friendly, outgoing and adaptable Frenchies. Most of our puppy families are either getting their second dog from us, or have met our dogs out and about in the Bay Area, and decided to get a Toad Alley puppy. Please ask local veterinarians (especially the Bulldog Gurus) about our dogs, as well as trainers and doggie daycare owners.
Breeding for health involves testing the parents, tracking the health of previous litters over the years, and avoiding inbreeding. Inbreeding not only produces poor immune systems, it brings to the surface the genetic defects that lurk in the Frenchie gene pool. We try to breed for open nostrils and a longer muzzle than the flat face that wins in the show ring. This helps give a brachycephalic dog a better airway with less chance of needing palate reduction surgery. Temperament is equally important. People who want a Frenchie usually want an adaptable, outoing, happy dog who loves children and is welcoming to new human family babies. We do too!
We are not always successful, since Frenchies are among the most difficult dogs to breed. However, we feel we do better than anyone else! Our many connections with veterinary reproductive specialists, Bulldog experts, geneticists, and behavior and training researchers help us along the way.
We feed cooked, raw, and dry food, as well as eggs from our free range hens. By feeding an extremely varied diet we feel confident that food allergies will be exposed, so we can avoid breeding dogs with this common problem.
